Apple sent media invitations for WWDC 2026 this week. Keynote is Monday June 8 at 10am Pacific, the week-long developer event runs through June 12, and the teaser graphic on the invite is an abstract glowing loop that the entire tech press read inside of three minutes as “the new Siri orb.” That may or may not be what it actually is. Apple loves a hint.
The question everyone is actually trying to answer is whether this is finally the WWDC where Apple Intelligence stops feeling like a public beta of a roadmap. The Siri 2.0 promised at WWDC 2024 has slipped through two iOS cycles, and the AI executive team got reshuffled in February when it became clear the in-house model timeline was not going to catch up to anyone. Reports from Bloomberg, The Information, and Mark Gurman’s various Sundays have been heavy on one specific claim for the past month: the rebuilt Siri shipping in iOS 27 will be powered, at least in part, by Google’s Gemini running in the cloud. Apple and Google have reportedly been working on the deal for months. Neither company has confirmed it on the record, and Apple would rather chew glass than acknowledge a partnership before the keynote shows it on screen.
If it lands the way the leaks say, the story is a real one. Apple spent the last two years promising an on-device, privacy-preserving Siri 2.0 was right around the corner. Renting Gemini to do the heavy reasoning, while Apple’s smaller on-device models handle the easy stuff, is a pragmatic answer and also a meaningful admission. The company that designs its own silicon, writes its own operating system, controls its own app store, and famously does not buy core technology from outside is, in the AI domain specifically, buying core technology from outside.
The other expected beats from the keynote: an extension framework that lets third-party AI agents plug into Apple Intelligence surfaces like Writing Tools and Image Playground, a standalone Siri app, and Siri finally being able to remember what you told it ninety seconds ago. Plus the usual iOS 27, macOS, watchOS, and assorted Vision Pro hand-waving. Two and a half weeks out. Set a reminder. Have Siri set the reminder if you want a feel for the baseline.
